New Construction Homes in Taylor
Northeast of Austin on US-79, Williamson County. A buyer-side guide to new construction in Taylor, with live listings, the builders and communities here, schools, taxes, and the honest tradeoffs.
The short answer
Taylor is the fastest-growing city in Williamson County and the center of Central Texas's semiconductor boom, about 35 miles northeast of downtown Austin on US-79. Samsung's roughly $17 billion chip fab on the city's east side, one of the largest advanced-semiconductor plants ever built in the country, has turned a historic Blackland Prairie town known for its 1890s downtown square and its barbecue into one of the region's most in-demand new-construction markets. New homes generally run from the mid $200s to the mid $500s as of 2026, and builders are adding supply fast to a market that had very little of it a few years ago.

- Price range
- As of 2026, new construction generally starts in the mid $200s from value builders (Coventry's Castlewood community, for example, opens in the mid $250s) and runs into the mid $500s for larger move-up homes, with most new inventory landing in the $340,000 to $450,000 range. Local home values have climbed an estimated 20 to 40 percent since Samsung's 2021 announcement, and builders are competing hard with rate buydowns and closing-cost help to move new supply.
- Commute
- Taylor's commute story is unusual for the metro: it is a job destination, not a bedroom community. The Samsung campus sits on the east edge of town, roughly 10 to 15 minutes from most new subdivisions, so plant and supplier workers avoid a regional commute entirely. Central Austin is another matter, about 35 to 50 minutes southwest via US-79 and the tolled SH-130, and longer at peak, so Taylor makes the most sense for households anchored to Samsung, the eastern Williamson County job base, or remote work rather than a daily downtown drive. Hutto and Round Rock are 15 to 30 minutes southwest for big-box shopping and services.

Before the base price
Newer Taylor subdivisions are commonly financed through a MUD or PID that layers extra taxes or assessments on top of city, county, and Taylor ISD taxes, pushing combined effective rates toward the mid-to-high 2 percent range in some new communities versus roughly 1.8 to 2.1 percent for property without a special district. Taylor ISD is a district in transition, and Samsung's growing contribution to the tax base is expected to fund major school capital improvements later this decade. Confirm the exact combined rate for the specific lot with the Williamson Central Appraisal District.

The case for and against Taylor
No suburb is right for everyone. Here is how I would frame it for a client.
The case for
- Ground zero for the metro's semiconductor boom, with Samsung and its suppliers driving jobs, investment, and long-term housing demand
- Among the shortest commutes anywhere to a major new employer: most subdivisions sit 10 to 15 minutes from the Samsung campus
- Historic, walkable downtown square with local restaurants, barbecue, and small-town character most new suburbs lack
- Some of the more attainable new-home prices in Williamson County as value builders compete for buyers
- Early-market timing: buyers are getting in ahead of much of the Samsung-driven growth and amenity build-out
The case against
- Long, toll-dependent drive to central Austin makes Taylor a poor fit for a daily downtown job
- New-home supply and community amenities are still catching up to demand, so choices remain thinner than in established suburbs
- Newer subdivisions carry MUD or PID taxes that push effective rates into the mid-to-high 2 percent range
- Taylor ISD is improving but currently rates below the marquee Williamson County districts, with major upgrades not expected until later this decade
- Rapid, Samsung-driven growth brings active construction, road work, and steady price pressure
On your side of the table
What a buyer’s agent watches for in Taylor
- +Confirm whether a lot sits in a Samsung-era MUD and get the exact combined tax rate, because new-community rates in Taylor can run well above the older parts of town
- +In a market this new, comparable sales are thin, so lean on your buyer's agent to check a builder's price against recent Taylor and Hutto closings
- +Value-builder specs from Starlight, DRB, and Dream Finders can finish quickly, so negotiate hardest on standing inventory near a builder's quarter-end
- +Ask how close a subdivision sits to the fab and to the rail and truck routes serving it, since proximity cuts both ways on commute and noise
- +Verify Taylor ISD attendance zones in writing, as fast growth is prompting boundary and capacity changes
- +Weigh resale honestly: Taylor's value is a bet on Samsung's build-out, so buy where you would still be comfortable if the timeline slips
On new construction the builder pays your representation, so all of this costs you nothing. Updated August 25, 2026.
Good to know
Taylor new construction, answered
- Is Taylor, TX a good place to buy a new home?
- For a buyer tied to Samsung, its suppliers, or the eastern Williamson County job base, yes: Taylor offers short commutes to the fab, attainable new-home prices, and strong long-term demand from the semiconductor build-out. It is a weaker fit for a daily central-Austin commuter, since downtown is 35 to 50 minutes away, and amenities and schools are still catching up to the growth.
- How close are new homes in Taylor to the Samsung plant?
- Very close. The Samsung semiconductor campus sits on the east edge of Taylor, roughly 10 to 15 minutes from most new subdivisions, so employees can skip the regional commute that workers at other Austin job centers face. It is one of the shortest new-home-to-major-employer commutes in the metro.
- Why are home prices rising in Taylor, Texas?
- Samsung's roughly $17 billion fab, one of the largest chip plants ever built in the U.S., has drawn thousands of jobs and a wave of supplier and support employers to a formerly rural town. Local values are estimated to have risen 20 to 40 percent since the 2021 announcement, and demand continues to outpace the still-limited new-home supply.
